Robotic Arm Package Thief Deterrent

Another school project, this time with the task given to me to create a thief deterrent system, similar to that of Mark Rober’s Glitter Bombs. For this task I decided to create a robotic arm that when the box is opened prematurely, rises up and “attacks” the thief while playing an alarm. This project became more of a passion project, extending well beyond what was required, incorporating more advanced concepts into the design like Inverse Kinematics.

How it works

Overall the circuit used for the system was pretty basic, making use of stepper motors and servos. The design also takes a few sensors into consideration, namely a distance and IR sensor.

Over all this was once again a quick and easy project which allowed me to better understand certain elements of engineering, including robotics and interpreting sensor data to understand when and how the robot arm should move.
